UKMC LOUNGE COMMUNITY · NORWICH & ACROSS THE UK

You Are Not Alone

Over 100 people have already registered for UKMC Lounge membership — professionals, parents, business owners and individuals of every background, united by one thing: a valid medical cannabis prescription and the desire for a space where they can use it with dignity, comfort and community.

Who Is the UKMC Lounge Community?

Medical cannabis patients do not fit a single profile. Among our first 100+ pre-registered members are nurses and teachers, retired professionals and university students, entrepreneurs and carers, parents of young children and grandparents. They come from Norwich, from across Norfolk, from Suffolk and beyond. What they share is not a demographic — it is an experience.

Most have tried everything else first. Tramadol. Codeine. Oramorph. Antidepressants. Anticonvulsants. Physiotherapy. Cognitive behavioural therapy. Years of appointments, referrals, waiting lists and side effects — before finally finding that a legally prescribed cannabis-based medicinal product gave them back something that conventional medicine could not: a day that felt manageable, a night of sleep, a reduction in pain that made everything else possible.

Many of them medicate alone. Not because they choose to — but because there has been nowhere else to go.

UKMC Lounge is being built to change that.

No prescription? No problem. Adults who are curious about UKMC Lounge, considering medical cannabis for themselves or a family member, supporting someone with a prescription, or simply want to come in, have a coffee and find out more are warmly welcome to visit. You do not need a prescription to enjoy our refreshments and meet the team. To arrange a visit, contact info@ukmcgroup.co.uk — Simon Jones, Head of Membership, will be happy to show you around.

Conditions Our Community Lives With

The conditions that bring our members to medical cannabis are as varied as the people themselves. The most common across our pre-registered community reflect the seven broad categories that account for the majority of UK medical cannabis prescriptions — as identified in a 2026 CPD article by Dr Sue Clenton of Releaf, one of the UK's leading medical cannabis clinics. Source: CPD UK / Releaf, 2026.

The following is general information only. UKMC Lounges does not provide medical advice. Medical cannabis prescriptions are issued only by GMC-registered specialist doctors. For information on eligibility, contact a licensed UK medical cannabis clinic.

MOST COMMON · 49% OF UK PATIENTS

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is the single most common reason for a UK medical cannabis prescription — accounting for approximately 49% of patients, according to peer-reviewed analysis published in BJPsych Open. This includes neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, lower back pain, chronic regional pain syndrome, spinal injuries, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and pain linked to endometriosis. For patients like Zoe from Hertfordshire — who told LBC she had been living with life-altering pain from fibromyalgia, arthritis and a spinal injury before receiving her prescription in 2018 — medical cannabis changed the quality of her life when nothing else had. 42% OF UK PATIENTS · ANXIETY IS THE 2ND MOST COMMON

Anxiety, PTSD and Mental Health

Anxiety disorders — including generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder and OCD — account for approximately 42% of UK medical cannabis prescriptions, making them the second most common category. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression are also regularly treated with cannabis-based therapies following careful specialist screening. For many patients with mental health conditions, the isolation of medicating alone carries its own additional burden — making a safe, welcoming community space an important part of their overall wellbeing. 16% OF CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia — characterised by widespread chronic pain, fatigue, unrefreshed sleep and cognitive difficulties — is among the most common specific diagnoses in UK medical cannabis patients, accounting for 16.3% of those prescribed for chronic pain conditions, according to the UK Medical Cannabis Registry. A 2025 peer-reviewed study of 497 fibromyalgia patients treated with CBPMs found improvements across all patient-reported outcome measures including pain, anxiety, sleep quality and general quality of life. 68% of fibromyalgia patients in the UKMCR were female. MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS · EPILEPSY · PARKINSON'S

Neurological Conditions

Multiple sclerosis, treatment-resistant epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and in some cases dementia-related symptom management are all conditions for which UK specialist doctors regularly consider cannabis-based medicinal products. Sativex — one of only three fully licensed cannabis medicines in the UK — is approved specifically for managing muscle spasticity in MS patients. Epidyolex is licensed for treating severe, rare epilepsy syndromes including Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Source: MHRA; NHS England; NICE; Releaf / CPD UK 2026.

INSOMNIA · SLEEP DISRUPTION · SLEEP APNOEA

Sleep Disorders and Insomnia

Chronic sleep disruption — whether as a primary condition or as a secondary consequence of pain, anxiety or other health conditions — is one of the most common reasons patients seek a medical cannabis prescription. Poor sleep affects every area of life: mental health, cognitive function, relationships, work performance and physical health. For many UKMC Lounge members, the first genuinely restorative sleep they experienced came after beginning their cannabis prescription. Source: Releaf / CPD UK 2026; MCPH 2026.

CROHN'S · IBD · IBS

Gastrointestinal Conditions

Crohn's disease, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome are among the gastrointestinal conditions for which UK specialists may prescribe cannabis-based medicinal products — particularly where conventional treatments have been tried without sufficient benefit. The anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids have been the subject of growing clinical interest in the context of gut health conditions. NAUSEA · PAIN · APPETITE LOSS

Cancer-Related Symptoms

Cannabis-based medicines have been used in the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting since before the 2018 rescheduling — Nabilone, a synthetic cannabinoid, has been licensed for this purpose since 2009. Medical cannabis is also considered for cancer pain management and appetite loss, particularly in patients where conventional anti-emetics and painkillers have not provided adequate relief. A Legal Treatment. An Unnecessary Stigma.

Medical cannabis is a legally prescribed, clinically justified, regulated pharmaceutical treatment. And yet many patients still feel the need to hide it — from their neighbours, their colleagues, sometimes even their families.

"Taking tablets all the time was just numbing it and not making me feel any better and the cannabis has completely flipped that. It has really changed my quality of life — my mental health, my wellbeing, my anxiety."
— Zoe, fibromyalgia, arthritis and spinal injury patient. Source: LBC, November 2025.

Zoe also told LBC that for years she had felt ignored by the NHS — to the point where she began using street dealers just to get a good night's sleep. She now pays up to £300 a month for a private prescription. Her experience is not unusual. An estimated 1.4 million people in the UK are still accessing cannabis illegally to manage health conditions — at significant legal, health and personal risk.

UKMC Lounge exists because stigma is not a clinical side effect that patients should have to manage. It is a social failure — and a social space can help to undo it.

More Than a Place to Medicate

UKMC Lounge is a place to medicate — but it is also, for those who want it, a place to connect. Many of the conditions that bring our members through the door are isolating by nature. Chronic pain limits mobility and social activity. Anxiety makes crowded, unfamiliar spaces difficult. PTSD can make socialising feel impossible. Sleep disorders leave people exhausted and withdrawn.

The lounge is designed with all of this in mind. There are private booths for those who want solitude. Quiet working areas for those who need to focus. Comfortable seating areas for those who want to talk — and calm, unhurried spaces for those who simply want to sit.

But when members do connect — when a conversation starts over an artisan hot chocolate between two people who both know what it is to live with fibromyalgia for ten years, or both know what it is to finally sleep a full night — something important happens. The isolation lessens. The stigma loosens its grip. The room becomes, quietly, a community.

Our events programme — comedy nights, live music evenings from local Norwich artists, themed social evenings — is designed to create those moments deliberately. Not every member will want to stay for a comedy night. But some will. And for those who do, UKMC Lounge will be the room where they made a friend they would not have met anywhere else.

Judgement-Free by Design

Every person in the room has a valid prescription. Nobody needs to explain themselves. Nobody is looked at differently. The environment is professional, discreet and built entirely around the people it serves.

Connection on Your Terms

There is no obligation to socialise. Private booths and quiet areas mean you can medicate, work and leave without interacting with anyone else if that is what you need. But the option to connect — with people who understand exactly what you are managing — is always there.

The UKMC Lounge Community — Who We Are

UKMC Lounge is not simply a premises — it is a community. Over 100 verified medical cannabis prescription holders have pre-registered for membership ahead of the Q1 2027 Norwich launch, representing a cross-section of the UK patient population: people living with chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, cancer-related symptoms and dozens of other conditions for which medical cannabis has been clinically prescribed. What unites every member is not their condition — it is the experience of being a legal, verified patient who has struggled to find a dignified, safe and legal space to use their prescribed medication. Smoking is illegal under UK law and is not permitted at UKMC Lounge. Recreational cannabis is not welcome and not tolerated. UKMC Lounge is a professional private members space for people who have followed the legal route to accessing medical cannabis — and who deserve an environment that reflects the seriousness of that choice. Membership is free to apply for. Verified carers and companions are welcome. Curious adults who want to understand medical cannabis from a patient perspective are welcome to visit during open sessions. UKMC Lounge is opening in Central Norwich in Q1 2027 — with further locations planned across London, Birmingham, Manchester and East Anglia.
